Common Furnace Issues

A malfunctioning furnace during a Colorado winter is more than an inconvenience. Most problems trace back to a handful of common failure points: ignition issues from a faulty igniter or dirty flame sensor, blower motor failures from worn bearings or dirt buildup, thermostat malfunctions from dead batteries or wiring faults, and pilot light problems on older standing-pilot systems. Heat exchanger cracks from age or corrosion are the most serious issue since they can produce carbon monoxide. If your furnace is showing any of these symptoms, start with the steps below before calling for service. For systems that need ongoing attention, regular furnace maintenance catches these issues early.

See What Sets Us Apart

Diagnose First, Quote Second

We figure out what's actually wrong before we talk about money. Our technicians run combustion analysis, check gas pressure, and test safety controls. You get a clear explanation of the problem and your options before any work starts.

Honest Repair vs Replace Advice

If your furnace is worth repairing, we'll repair it. If the repair cost approaches replacement value, or if we find a cracked heat exchanger, we'll tell you straight. We don't upsell replacements on fixable systems.

Altitude and Age Expertise

Furnace problems in Colorado often trace back to altitude. Incorrect orifice sizing, combustion air issues, and venting problems are more common above 5,000 feet. We've seen every failure mode these conditions produce.

Common Parts On-Hand

Our trucks carry ignitors, flame sensors, pressure switches, blower motors, and control boards for the brands we see most often. Many repairs are completed the same visit without a second trip for parts.

Had an estimate from a company that Costco uses. I was quickly convinced to switch to another product because that one had class action lawsuits. Received a $28k and was pressured to sign. Found UniColorado from an AI search and they not only saved me 5k on the total but, I have a much better furnace!! Great service, installation, follow-up and communication. Would recommend!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The entire team with UniColorado worked tirelessly to get our new AC/Furnace installed. Understanding that we were working with a tight time frame, the guys got the job on the schedule quickly, and then went above and beyond to make sure everything was right after a couple of things didn't go according to plan. Could not recommend UniColorado more.

Brian arrived early today to look at a furnace problem I had with one of my furnaces. Turns out it was in the thermostat, which he replaced. He noticed that the furnace needed a tune-up. I asked him to look at the second furnace also, since I had them installed at the same time. It also needed a tune-up. He was pleasant and respectful of my home. He explained everything about the problems and quickly and efficiently completed the tasks. I took his card because I want to remember to call UniColorado again for all of my furnace needs.

Making the right call

When to Repair vs. Replace

Not every furnace problem warrants a full replacement. If your system is under 12-15 years old and the repair costs less than roughly half the price of a new unit, repair usually makes sense. But there are situations where replacement is the better long-term investment: repeated breakdowns in the same season, a cracked heat exchanger, or a system that still runs on a standing pilot light. If the cost to keep an aging furnace running keeps climbing, a new high-efficiency furnace or a heat pump can cut heating costs significantly. We provide both repair and replacement quotes so you can compare options side by side.
